Jones, former University of Hawaii Warriors head coach who is noted for turning around a waning football program before leaving the Aloha State for SMU has visited Tutuila for the past two summers, and this is his third year coordinating the Goodwill Mission for local youth and residents. According to Samoa Bowl Committee’s Peter Gurr, Jones touches down next Thursday with 29 staff members and assistants. “June Jones is scheduled to land here on island next week Thursday, that’ll be the 24th of June, and he will be on island with 29 of his assistant and staff members, to organize their Good Will Mission,” Gurr explained. “We are guessing that there will be 32 members of this June Jones trip coming down, three of his colleagues are already on island, and they will be holding sessions on Saturday morning for the youth of American Samoa.” Jones has been a spectacular example of a coach, as he has received numerous honors throughout his college coaching career and has become well known for his support of Samoan and Pacific island athletes, including the establishment of his goodwill missions to American Samoa. |
