Over the coming weeks, we’re going analyze the current roster player by player, by position, by need, free agents, potential draftees and much more.  But to start off, let’s run down the roster and analyze each piece the Jets currently have control over.
Position: Defensive Tackle
Height / Weight: 6’8” 315 lbs.
Age: 25 / Experience: 2
College: Washington State
2011 Contract Status: $480K in 2011, RFA in 2012
2010 Analysis
There’s not a lot to say about Ropati’s 2010 season, other than that it was unfortunate.  After a few years with the team and some good spring practices in which he impressed his coaches at start to training camp, Pitoitua was placed on injured reserve with a tear to his left Achilles tendon.  Since then he’s been rehabbing the injury and expects to be back in 2010.
2011 Outlook It’s hard to know exactly how his recovery will go, but Ropati was in a good spot last year to be a rotational player for the Jets in 2010.  The Jets will likely look to put him right back into the fray for that rotation, especially with some question marks around both Trevor Pryce and Shaun Ellis’s returns to the Jets in 2011.
Pitoitua has the size to be a force on the Jets defensive line, and he was getting better with his techniques.  I’d expect Pitoitua to be able to mount a serious campaign for playing time this fall throughout the spring and summer.
