Two touchdowns by Joe Bergeron leads Americans to victory
A tough struggle on an unseasonably cold night greeted the U.S. Under-19 National team Feb. 2 in Austin, Texas.
The outcome was the same as Team USA improved to 5-0 in international play, but this one went right down to the wire. The Americans won, 21-14, in the second annual Team USA vs. The World at Westlake High School’s Chaparral Stadium.
Team USA running back Joe Bergeron of Mesquite, Texas, was named MVP for his team's 21-14 victory over the World on Feb. 2 in Austin, Texas. The soon-to-be Texas Longhorn ran 15 times for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

“There’s really nothing that compares with this experience. There’s nothing that’s even close,” said Team USA Head Coach Darren Allman, also the head coach at Westlake High School. “There couldn’t be a better cultural experience for us, and when you put on top of that being able to be on the same field with players from all over the world, for us in our profession, it doesn’t come any better than that. It’s been an invaluable experience for me and our other coaches.”
Team USA raced to a 21-6 lead by the third quarter before the World Team threatened a late comeback that fell just short.
