Grant's Moala named Parade All-American; 3 make Cal-Hi All-State team

January 26, 2011

The honors continue to come in for Sacramento-area football players, fitting for the record-breaking season.
Grant High School defensive tackle Vei Moala was named to the prestigious Parade All-America team. The magazine will print the entire list on Feb. 6.
Moala, a two-time Bee Defensive Player of the Year, was a run-stopping terror who drew national recruiting interest. Facing double teams, Moala had 131 tackles and 16 sacks. He has given a verbal commitment to play at Cal.
Moala also made the Cal-Hi Sports-ESPNRISE All-State team that included three additional players from the region.

Folsom quarterback Dano Graves made it after setting a state record with 85 total touchdowns in leading the Bulldogs to the State Division II championship. Graves passed for 3,702 yards and 62 touchdowns and ran for 994 yards and 23 TDs.
Graves also was named Bee Player of the Year, Cal-Hi Mr. Football State Player of the Year and the MaxPreps National Player of the Year.
Graves will make a recruiting visit to Sacramento State this weekend and then announce on letter-of-intent day where he will attend school.
The first-team offense featured lineman Arik Armstead of Pleasant Grove, a junior national recruit who helped the Eagles go 13-1 and win the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship. Armstead has scholarship offers from USC, Notre Dame, Alabama and Auburn, among others.
Grant's Shaq Thompson was a first-team All-Purpose player after rushing for nearly 1,900 yards and 25 touchdowns, catching passes, returning kicks and playing superb corner on defense. He also was the punter. Only a junior, Thompson is considered one of the top recruits in the country.
