Mesa sackmaster rewarded for defensive efforts

Mesa sophomore linebacker Aisea Vave was selected to the 2010 All-Region I Second Team as a defensive lineman.  Vave became widely known this season for his quarterback sacking prowess, and therefore earned the nod as a defensive lineman.
The Meridian, ID native led Mesa with 10 sacks for a loss of 24 yards.  His season high came in the first game of the season against Scottsdale at home on Sept. 4, where he recorded four sacks for a loss of 19 yards.  He had 6.5 tackles for loss this year, which accounted for 19 lost yards and was third-best for the T-Birds.  Vave tallied 25 tackles, good for the eighth-most on the team, to go along with a fumble recovery.  He finished 11th nationally in sacks and tied for first in the WSFL.
Vave was the core of a defense that fought hard all year to keep the pressure up and let their offense stay within striking distance.  Aisea Vave is currently taking recruiting visits to multiple NCAA Division I and Division II schools.  Football coach Denver Latimore is working with Vave to help him find the best fit for next season.  Check back here for more information in the coming
