Jefferson defensive end Noa Aluesi has orally committed to accept a football scholarship from Oregon State, according to Democrats coach Anthony Stoudamire.

Stoudamire said that Aluesi, who also played quarterback for the Democrats, chose the Beavers over offers from Portland State and Idaho. He said Aluesi cancelled a recruiting trip to Utah for this weekend.

“I think Oregon State is a great fit for him,” Stoudamire said. “I think he'll do well. He's going to go on his (Mormon) mission, so we probably won't see him on the field until 2013. Oregon State is really excited about him, and I'm really excited about him being there.”

The coach said that Aluesi has grown since the start of football season and is about 6-foot-8, 255 pounds.

“He's a big boy, but he carries it well,” Stoudamire said. “Oregon State is looking at him as a defensive end, maybe outside linebacker, even tight end. He's an athlete, and they're just going to play it by ear.”

Aluesi grew up in American Samoa, moved to the U.S. at age 10 and began playing football as an eighth-grader. He was named to the Class 5A second team at defensive end last season.

Jefferson senior defensive lineman Alex Mitchell (6-3, 310), a Class 5A first-team selection, is weighing his college options. Stoudamire said Mitchell has offers from Southern Methodist, Portland State and Idaho, where he plans to visit this weekend.

“And we've got a lot of other people who are looking but haven't offered yet,” Stoudamire said.
