Sun Devils Serve: Catching Up With Nikole Afusia Blog by Nikole Afusia
Dec. 9, 2011
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State student-athlete Nikole Afusia talks about her experiences during the holiday seasons in which Sun Devil Athletics staff and student-athletes helped lend a hand.
Nikole Afusia | Softball | Senior
"My name is Nikole Afusia and I am a senior on the ASU Softball team. I will be graduating in May 2012 with a bachelors in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in social welfare and sociology. Within my classes that I have been taking, I have been studying how families work in the social welfare aspect and how to look for recommendations to help those families start 'a new beginning.'
This fall holiday season, I served my community in helping with Helen's Hope Chest and Sunshine Acres. Serving the community in the social welfare aspect opens my eyes to so many people who need help. Whether it be separating clothes at Helen's Hope chest, or having a casual conversation with a child who lives with nine others in their house, it puts me in a reality check of where I come from. Representing the Sun Devil community and having an impact on someone's life is a blessing. Being able to leave and seeing a smile on someone's face really is the only gift I will ever need."
