Iosia earns Russell Athletic award


PRINCESS ANNE -- University of Maryland Eastern Shore freshman Saitaua Iosia was named Russell Historically Black Colleges and Universities Female MVP of the Year.

The award is decided by fans across the country voting for the winner .

This is the first year the Russell Athletics is awarding the honor to all HBCU's in the country.

"With gratitude to God and Russell Athletic, I am honored to accept this award as an accomplishment not only for me but for my school, team and family," Iosia said.

The freshman outside hitter adds this honor to her MEAC Rookie of the Year, First-Team All-MEAC, MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Performer, COBRA Magazine Freshman of the Year, COBRA East Region Player of the Year and COBRA All-National First Team honors.

She led the MEAC in kills and points per game and was fourth in aces per game and hitting percentage.

Iosia had 472 kills, 49 service aces, 268 digs and 54 blocks.
