Mar 14, 2012 - Isaac Savaiinaea, a top linebacker recruit, has committed to the Stanford Cardinal, according to multiple reports. Savaiinaea stars for Punahou High School in Honoulu, Hawaii. He also claims offers from the Arizona St. Sun Devils, Arizona Wildcats, Colorado Buffaloes, Hawaii Warriors, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Oregon Ducks, UCLA Bruins and Utah Utes.
Savaiinaea has excellent size at 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds. For many schools, that size could be troublesome at the linebacker position because of continued projected growth. But Stanford runs a 3-4 and needs large linebackers to play in its defense. And Savaiinaea is a good one -- he's a consensus four-star recruit among the major services that have elected to rate him.
Savaiinaea plays with great physicality and pursues well sideline to sideline, relative to his size. He takes on blocks well, sheds them and finds the runner. His coverage abilities aren't shown all that much in his highlight film, but Savaiinaea is an excellent prospect nonetheless.
