Reid Earns COBRA Magazine Recognition

Brooklyn, N.Y. - Long Island University junior Sapphire Reid earned honorable mention accolades when COBRA Magazine announced its 2011 All-Northeast Region Team. COBRA Magazine celebrates the success of volleyball players of African, Samoan and Tongan descent in hopes of encouraging young girls of those ethnic groups across the country to pursue the sport.

Reid was a member of a Blackbirds squad that went 21-13 and advanced to the finals of the Northeast Conference Tournament. The outside hitter averaged 1.85 kills per set, including a season-high of 14 on two occasions: against St. John's on Sept. 13 and at Robert Morris on Oct. 29. Reid also averaged 2.26 digs per set, topping out at 21 in that same match at Robert Morris.
