LSU's 2012 recruiting class increased by one and a memorable one at that. The school signed what is believed to be the first Polynesian Tiger when offensive lineman Fehoko Fanaika, whose heritage is Tongan, signed scholarship papers with the Tigers, according to Rivals.com.
Fanaika, a guard at College of San Mateo (Calif.), faxed his paperwork to LSU on Friday and become the team's 23rd signee. He was heavily recruited by Florida and also drew interest from Hawaii.
"He's a Tiger," San Mateo assistant coach Tim Tulloch told Rivals.
Fanaika, who is 6-feet-6 and 340 pounds, is expected to graduate from College of San Mateo in July and will have three years to play two as a junior college transfer. He is expected to redshirt in 2012 with five LSU offensive line starters returning for the 2012 season.
