The Jets waived defensive lineman Ropati Pitoitua on Wednesday. The 6-8, 215-pound Pitoitua had 19 tackles and one sack in 14 games last season. Last September, the Jets signed him to a one-year, $1.15 million extension ($950,000 base salary + bonuses). He missed the entire 2010 season after suffering an Achilles injury in the preseason.
Pitoitua became expendable after the Jets drafted defensive lineman Quinton Coples in the first round last week.
The team also officially announced that they signed kicker Josh Brown and long-snapper Derek Chard.
