POCATELLO - Idaho State announced Wednesday the signing of 18 players in its 2011 recruiting class. The newest Bengals include five from the Gem State.
The in-state signees are Colin Andrus, an offensive lineman from Idaho Falls; Levin Altringer, a quarterback from Rocky Mountain High School in Meridian; Tyler Graves, a defensive lineman from Fruitland; Kyle Jones, a lineman from Caldwell's Vallivue High and Jim Bagley, an offensive lineman from Rocky Mountain.
Andrus and linebacker Ben Heimuli of Utah's Cottonwood High School will serve LDS missions and enroll at ISU in 2014.
While first-year ISU coach Mike Kramer praised his recruits on-field abilities, he added, "This class academically is as solid of a class as I have ever signed. I am proud of the staff and everybody involved who have helped assemble this class."
Kramer also announced that former Lighthouse Christian star John van Vliet is one of three former walk-ons who will be given a full scholarship beginning this semester. Van Vliet started on the offensive line last season. Joining him in receiving a scholarship are defensive lineman Austin Schnizler and running back Daniel McSurdy. In the 2011 fall semester, defensive back Tanner Davis and linebacker Jack Francis will be rewarded full scholarships.
One solid signee for the Bengals is Washington transfer Anthony Boyles, a 6-2 receiver from Los Angeles who will graduate in May and attend ISU as a graduate student.
"Anthony has exceptional ability and talent," said Kramer. "He has languished in the depth at Washington and we relish the opportunity to get him on the field. We expect him to become an integral part of our receiving corps immediately."
